ANNE FINES NOTES

ANNE FINES BIOGRAPHY

Anne studied art at the renowned College for Creative Studies in Detroit on a three-year scholarship, and at Wayne State University’s art department. She has paintings, drawings, sculpture and mosaic murals in private and museum collections internationally. One piece, which was a purchase award in a Province of Ontario competition, was presented to the Queen of England. After leaving art school, she immediately proceeded to paint and teach art while benefiting from two consecutive Canada Council award/grants.

Anne has shown her work extensively in gallery and traveling shows throughout Canada. While a regular exhibitor in many of Canada’s most prestigious shows throughout the years, she choose to establish her own gallery in Toronto’s exciting Eastern Beaches area. It served as a grand opportunity for aspiring artists to show their work in a bona fide art gallery in an international setting.

Sometimes described as “magical realism,” Anne’s artistic themes capture raw emotions in a variety of genre scenes – sincere depictions of people in commonplace settings. Technically adept in many mediums, Anne continually strives to evolve both her techniques and subject matter in acrylic and pastel mediums. Her courses at the DuPage Art League and the College of DuPage have been ongoing favorites for adults, teens and children.

On techniques, an art critic for Detroit’s major newspaper published these observations:

“She likes to draw a thin oil-wetted brush, to touch in shadows with a dripping neutral fluid, and then to fill in details of local color and sometimes the background, using a juicy impasto. The result approaches a Vermeer-Matisse richness of coloration.”

As a keen observer of life, she concentrates on portraying the essence of her subject.

Her paintings have recently been exhibited in The Alliance of Fine Art's

"The Best of the Best" Art Show and the DuPage Art League.

ANNE FINES ON TEACHING METHODS

"My goal in the instruction of drawing and painting courses for adults, teens and children is to first develop their basic skills in drawing and design – while exploring all the necessary techniques to enhance their works of art. What's more, my exercises contain valuable information focused on tone, color theory and basic design. I also stress the correct use of tools and materials through practice and repetition.

It's amazing how satisfied and confident students become once they have the skill sets to bring their concepts to life. Free expression does require a certain amount of discipline, that's why I strive to make the path as interesting and enjoyable for all my students."
